Winter Calm - Yosemite, CA

First protected in 1864, Yosemite became a World Heritage Site in 1984. And for a good reason.
Apart from the destruction what settlers and people caused to nature in the area we can be thankful for certain individuals like Galen Clark and John Muir, who made a major part of the national development in the United States. They saw the beauty in it and the importance of appreciation and keeping it for future generations.
And we are part of this (now) future generation. As for many Yosemite is also my favorite National Park.
And I love it in every season for every reason. February though, when you can expect the most snow, can show the winterland side of the park. This image was taken right after a snowstorm. I had kept an eye on the forecast the whole month and toward the end when the storm was coming I visited the park. I slept nearby Valley View but for 2 days I couldnot see much due to the predicted storm. The third morning I still remember waking myself up around 5.45am to get prepared for the morning light. Actually the cold woke me up. As my accommodation was not more than a tent and a sleeping bag my body felt the shock between the cozy bag and freezing outside temperature. But once I managed to get dressed and walk to the Valley View spot a clear and magical view awaited.
