Au Revoir - Joshua Tree NP

Until we see you again.

The visit to Joshua Tree National Park was an adventurous experience. We traveled to the Park all the way from San Diego with my wife. Originally we had planned to start our encounter with the majestic Joshua Trees the night before.

But a heavy rainfall and the following flash flood made this impossible. The following day we were full of great expectations. But it wasnt easy to get there.

Because of the flash flood the park’s Southern entrance was closed and eventually we ended up photographing some amazing tree formations in the western side during the day. The sky was blue with cloud formations, some promising evening for a great sunset. Before sunset time we were misled by our GPS and sort of got lost in the park. I already had a vision in mind with the tree in the foreground so the search begun.

In our newly fond route we soon stumbled upon the area I was looking for. It was just a short hike and I found a spot which I had visualized. No rattlesnakes, no ants under my feet. I was happy. We were in this unique ecosystem in the Mojave Desert 30 minutes before sunset.

On my left the beautiful rock formations had a V shape opening. The position of this allowed me to have the last rays of the sunset being reflected on the Joshua Tree in the foreground. When this happened, the whole experience didnt last more than 20 seconds. Just enough for this shot to be captured. We both felt that majestic feeling on that night, one can only feel in this designated wilderness. This was a special evening and the most beautiful one in the park we had ever experienced.

After couple of days it was time to say good-bye to the Mojave, the rock formations and the Yuccas.
